Planting poppies at Petawawa Legion
The Petawawa Horticultural Society planted Poppies at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 517 cenotaph on June 5. Much like the daffodils the group has planted in the past, this crop of flowers will add colour to the monument. Planting, from left, are Irene Van Gemeren, Jack Van Gemeren, Ron Needham, Ralph Kendrick, Lianne Remus and Society President John McElroy. The group’s next venture will be their Trillium Awards in August where they identify and award owners of pleasing front yards in Petawawa that contribute to the beauty of the town. Nomination papers will be left at the Petawawa Public Library. The horticultural society meetings with guest speakers will resume on Sept. 9 and a trivia contest will also be held on Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. at the Legion.
