The Canadian Cancer Society Renfrew County Community Office has a new home.

The Society moved from its old location on Pembroke Street to 169 William St. in order to better accommodate staff, volunteers and clientele while still offering the same much-needed programs, resources, and services to continue in their fight against cancer.

“It is a nice change from where we were,” said Society Manager Roger Martins. “We are so happy to be taking care of the community here one person at a time,” he added.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on May 30, which Pembroke Mayor Mike LeMay attended.

He has always been appreciative of the vital work that the society does within his city and the surrounding municipalities. Not only does the organization offer such programs as peer support, Wheels of Hope Transportation Services and the free wig clinic, but also it hold fundraising events to collect money for crucial cancer research.

“I’m so pleased to be able to participate with the opening of the Cancer Society,” said LeMay. “They do so much good.”

The Society is now located in the old Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Pembroke headquarters.

“I hope they like their new space in the City of Pembroke,” said LeMay. “I think the offices are great. The transformation is really, really interesting.”
