Pembroke launches Snow Angels initiative

PEMBROKE - The City of Pembroke introduced a new initiative to help match volunteers with residents in their area who require assistance removing snow from their driveways and walkways.

Through the Snow Angels initiative, individuals in need of assistance can register and be paired with a volunteer. The program is free as it is strictly volunteer-based.

“We are aware that clearing snow can be a barrier for many people, including older adults, people with disabilities, someone with an injury, or even a parent with young children with difficulties leaving the house,” explained Operations Committee Chair Deputy Mayor Ron Gervais. “The inability to remove snow can affect an individual’s ability to stay active in our community and to live at home as safely and as independently as possible. With the launch of this initiative, we aim to help to remove this barrier for Pembroke residents.”

The Snow Angels initiative is not a City of Pembroke program. It relies completely on volunteers. To volunteer or to register for assistance, visit Snow Angels Canada, snowangelscanada.ca.

To encourage involvement and to recognize the efforts of the generous snow angels, volunteers will have the chance to win some City of Pembroke swag. If you are being assisted by the program this winter and wish to recognize your snow angel, you can nominate the volunteer and they will be entered in a draw. Nominations are accepted by completing the nomination form on the City’s website, by phone at 613-735-6821 ext. 1515, or by email at emckeown@pembroke.ca. The draw will be held the end of March.
