Explore ‘Good for You’ food choices during March is Nutrition Month

Garrison Petawawa is encouraging people to examine their eating habits and make healthier choices.
March is Nutrition Month, and the Health Promotion team has put together a family challenge to encourage everyone to adopt better eating habits. They are working with the Dietitians of Canada to educate Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members and their families that eating better makes you feel better.
This year’s “Good for You” campaign explores how healthy eating looks different for everyone and there is no one size fits all approach. They recognize how culture, food traditions, personal circumstances, preferences and nutritional needs all contribute to what healthy looks like for you. Dieticians want to help you find your healthy.
Choosing the right fuel to put in your body is crucial to health, said Lucie Martin, Health Promotion Specialist, 4th Canadian Division Support Group (4 CDSG) Garrison Petawawa.
It ensures you have the energy for daily activities, that you are well-rested, staves off preventable illnesses and promotes strong brain activity.

“It just makes the best you that you can be,” said Martin.
Beginning on March 1, information on better eating habits and recipes will be posted online and distributed through the units on the Garrison.
Every Monday, the Health Promotion team will reveal a list of mystery ingredients. The recipe they correspond to will then be posted on the following Friday.
Information on nutrition and healthy habits will also be released every Wednesday.
In addition, there will be a prize for those who send in a picture of their creation.
A total of four recipes will be posted - a breakfast, a lunch, a dinner and a snack.
“We are trying to cover all four of those in our posts,” said Martin.
Because of COVID-19 restrictions, anything in-person was not an option. The Health Promotion program ‘Cooking with the CAF’ was also cancelled.
“So we wanted to do something that was more social media-driven so we could basically still connect with people through cooking,” explained Martin.
The material will be delivered in both English and French to ensure everyone can participate.
All information will be found on the Petawawa Health Promotion page as well as the individual unit pages in March.
