There is a Garrison Policy for “No outdoor fires” within the Garrison Petawawa Residential Housing areas of the North and South town sites. This includes all Fire Pits (homemade or store-bought) wood, Propane or Natural Gas fueled, and accent (Tiki) torches. The only areas that are allowed to have an “Open Fire” is Black Bear Campground, Kiska Beach Day Use area and designated unit lines that have prior approval from Garrison Operations and the Fire Hall. Even these areas can be restricted as Forest Fire Hazard levels increase.

Smoking materials that have been improperly discarded can cause loss of property and injuries due to the resulting fire. Please ensure all burning material is properly extinguished and discarded, especially during periods of extreme dry conditions.

The Garrison Fire Department is also reminding everyone that whenever a fire is discovered, whether it be at work or at home, the local building fire alarm shall be activated or the Smoke Alarm sounded at home. An occupant who notices an incident must call “911” to ensure the Fire Dept is notified. This is due to the fact that the building fire alarm system may be broken and the fact that not all Residential area home fire alarms are connected to the Fire Dept, especially in the North Side area.

Thank you,
Fire Prevention Branch
