April is Cancer Daffodil month and many of us survivors and supporters have been out and about selling daffodil pins in the community.

Please wear a pin and assist with the fight against cancer.  The Euchre winners for the Tuesday were:  Norma Oelke, Gilda McKay, Willard Schwanz, Bob Clouthier.

The winners of the Friday evening Euchre were: Ernie Lafrance, Lou McEvoy, Cathy McKay Jones, Lynn Mathewson and Patricia Mathewson.  We have had several scams making the rounds in the community lately and there will be a seminar on Wednesday, April 20 at 1:30 pm.  This seminar is open to everyone in the community.

The latest scams are the ‘Emergency’ and the ‘Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)’.  In the typical emergency scam, the victim will receive a frantic phone call from someone claiming to be a grandchild or loved one.  The caller will explain that they are involved in some sort of mishap or are having trouble returning from foreign country and need money, “right away.”

In the CRA scam, the criminals extort money from their victims by telephone, mail, text message or email, a fraudulent communication that claims to be from the Canada Revenue Agency requesting personal information such as a Social Insurance Number, credit card, bank account number  or passport number.  Fraudsters are either phishing for your identification or asking that outstanding taxes be paid by a money service business or by pre-paid debit/credit cards.

Line Dancing will commence on Thursday, April 7 at 10:30 a.m.  Get your boots on and come out for a fun time dancing and it’s great exercise for the body and mind.  Great music for anyone who loves to dance and sing. The Western Night Dinner/Dance will take place on Thursday, April 21.  The doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner being served at 6 p.m.  The food is catered by Schmidt’s and the music is by Bob Landry and Bob Madill.  We will have a door prize, a raffle, and a 50/50 draw, along with spot dance prizes.  Memberships are now due.

The cost is $25 for the fiscal year (April 1 to March 31).  Members who are 90 years of age or older will receive membership commencing the fiscal year after their 90th birthday. The Silver Threads Seniors Club is located at 1163 Victoria Street, Petawawa.  The office hours are:  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The phone number is 613-687-6574 and the e-mail is  See you at the Club!
