I hope everyone had a wonderful week.

The Petawawa Legion hosted the First Special Services Forces, FSSF, (Black Devils or Devil’s Brigade) 70th Anniversary memorial on August 13. It was very well attended by in excess of 200 people, with many dignitaries including Retired Major General Lewis MacKenzie. The most important attendees were, of course, the nine FSSF veterans and we were also honoured to host the widows of those who have passed on since their last gathering. It was indeed a privilege to be able to meet these people. Due to the weather we did hold the service inside and it went exceptionally well. Also due to the quick thinking of the Colour Party from the Canadian Special Operations Regiment, they performed in a very professional manner. To quote a famous actor, “Adapt and Overcome.” We would like to thank the FSSF for choosing our Branch to hold this very important service. We are honoured by this occasion and are proud to have served. It was a humbling experience to say the least. Unfortunately the 2nd Annual Motorcycle Ride for the Petawawa Legion sponsored by Veterans Enterprises had to be postponed due to weather, but from what I hear they still plan to hold this event so please keep an eye and an ear out for their announcement in the very near future. We thank everyone for their efforts in making the whole day the success that it was. To Judy DeGeer with Remax Realty, our deepest apologies for the mix up with the parking, and also thank you very much for accommodating us.

August 20 will feature a Street Dance from noon until 1 a.m. $5 and for those under 19 $2. Members receive a free hot dog or hamburger. DJs, games, dunk tank, bouncy castle, with all proceeds to support the Petawawa Legion. Don’t forget to see if you can “dunk your Boss” - challenge him or her to come out and have some laughs and a fun time.

Just as a reminder: Darts start Sept. 8 and Euchre starts Sept. 11. Keep an eye out for our articles. BBQs every Friday from 4:30 until 6 p.m. On Friday, August 19, a BBQ is planned with Bob and Frank hosting. We’ll have some very delicious food, including potato salad. Come out this Friday and enjoy with your friends.

Another planned important event coming up is Legion Week, Sept. 18 to 24. We’ve also got some other events coming up including Honours and Awards, and fish and chip nights, so keep an eye out for the posters. We are also hosting the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary convention, and there will be a General Meeting Sept. 25 at 3 p.m. Keep an eye out for further details.

You can use the downstairs lounge and BBQs for get- togethers for a small donation to help offset the cost of propane. The Legion is a great place to enjoy the beautiful scenery and there is plenty of room for everyone. Also some horseshoe pits, dart boards and a pool table and shuffle board to use as you see fit.

New members and volunteers are needed in a big way to make our Petawawa Legion and fun place, and a success. Give us a call if you wish to help out or become a member..
