Pembroke Pirates Advance to Little League Provincials

Congratulations to the Pembroke Pirates, Minor team, who won the Little League District 8 Play-downs with a clean 3-0 sweep against teams from Perth and Renfrew. The Pirates earned their spot to compete at the 2016 Minor Provincials, held this past August long weekend in Renfrew, at Me-te-way Park.

Although their official name is the Pembroke Pirates, the team consists of some of the top Minor level Little League ball players from in and around the Pembroke area.

The Minor Provincials are held each year in a different location across Ontario, and hosts the top teams from all of Ontario’s Little League Districts (8 teams).

This year, Renfrew hosted the Brockville Braves, Oakville Whitecaps, Orleans Red Sox, Renfrew Blue Sox, Pembroke Pirates, Timmins Lynx, Windsor South Canadians and Ottawa West.

Parade and Opening Ceremonies for the Provincial tournament were on Saturday, July 30 at 9 a.m. Games began at 9 a.m. on the Tye Diamond. The Pembroke Pirates played games on Saturday (2 p.m. vs Ottawa West), Sunday, July 31 (6 p.m. vs Windsor South Canadians) and Monday, Aug 1 (6 p.m. vs. Timmins Lynx). The top two teams from each pool advanced to a single elimination playoff round on Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug 2 and 3.
