A Change of Appointment marked the 56th Annual Ceremonial Review of the 2677 - 42nd Field Regiment (Lanark and Renfrew Scottish) Royal Canadian Artillery Army Cadet Corps.

Regimental Sergeant Major Chief Warrant Officer Connor Hamilton stepped down from his position, handing the pace stick to incoming RSM Chief Warrant Officer Chase Warren Dennis Stewart.

Despite the sweltering heat, the cadets stood at attention on June 11 to undergo this traditional end-of-the-year event.

“You have really had an extremely successful year and the awards that many of you earned is a testament to your individual excellences,” said Reviewing Officer Lieutenant Colonel Gary Hardwick.

With all the training they have done and leadership training the cadets have undergone, they’ve set themselves up for an incredible next year, he added.

Everything the cadets learned and continue to learn will help them with all their future endeavours, regardless of whether they decide to join the Canadian Armed Forces.

As well as activities like the marksmanship team, and drill and orienteering team training, the cadets enjoyed several fundraising opportunities. Fundraising, and donations from the community allow the organization to continue.

“We raised a total of $6,500, so that is money that we are going to be putting towards buying equipment,” said Steve Cupelli, Support Committee Chairman. “We are going to be buying them tents so we can sustain ourselves and do more than what we are mandated to do.”

Inspections and a march past were omitted from the program to keep those on parade from being overwhelmed by the heat, but awards and commendations were still handed out to worthy cadets.

Sergeant Aidan Duffin was given both the Lord Strathcona Medal and the Commanding Officer’s Award: Top Senior Cadet.

The Royal Canadian Legion Cadet Medal of Excellence went to Katrina Slusar. The Army Cadet Service Medal was given to CWO Hamilton, 6 years, and CWO Chase, 6 years. The Air Cadet Service Medal was presented to MP Cheryl Gallant. The Regimental Sergeant Major’s Award: Top Junior Cadet was given to Gunner Rosalie Leclerc. The Terry L. Hudson Memorial Trophy: Most Improved Cadet was awarded to Gunner Colin Smith for improved initiative and confidence. Jim Purcell Memorial Award: Top Esprit-de-corps was given to Gunner Dylan Wilson. Gunner Chloe Kelly was presented with the Top Sportsmanship Award. Bombardier Daniel Mainville was given the Captain Al Tobio Adventure Training Award. The Top Troop Award went home with Bravo Troop. The $250 2677 Army Cadet Crops Bursary was presented to CWO Hamilton.
