The weekend of July 15-16 saw the return of U16 girls Rep Soccer to the Petawawa area with the first tournament of the year for the U16G Valley Venom soccer team. The team participated in the 2017 Mississippi Invitational Soccer Tournament (MIST) in Carelton Place, ON.

The tournament was made up of five U16 and U18 teams playing in a round robin format with the top 4 teams advancing to the medal round. With a great start to their inaugural year, the U16 Valley Venom came away with a win in their first ever game over a U18 team from Ottawa West. This was a great building block for the girls’ confidence and after the conclusion of the round robin, there was a three way tie for third place with the Valley Venom moving through to the playoff round on goal differential. The bronze medal game pitted the Venom vs the U18 team from Ottawa West again and despite leaving it all on the field, the girls were unable to come out on top this time around and had to settle for a 4th place finish.

The team has been working hard since the initial tryouts in March and their skill development, poise, sportsmanship and tenacity were apparent throughout the weekend. They will continue to train and compete in friendlies with other soccer clubs leading up to their final tournament of the season, Kicking In The Capital September 9-10, 2017.

“C’mon you Venom.”
