On 7 July the Petawawa under 12 girls competitive soccer team (the Falcons) hosted a summer festival for rival clubs in Soccer North East District. Represented were teams from Petawawa, North Bay, Pembroke and Deep River.
The Festival was extremely successful, thanks in part from the support of Giant Tiger, Joe’s Family Pizzeria and Hyska’s Independent Grocer.
The Falcons tied their first game against Pembroke and won the following two against North Bay and Deep River.
In addition to the exposure of three high quality games, the girls had the opportunity to compete in shooting, dribbling and passing challenges encouraging team building and sportsmanship.
Petawawa Minor Soccer Club fields house league teams in a wide spectrum of age groups and helps support competitive/developmental programs like the Falcons. These programs have been increasing in popularity and Petawawa now fields tournament teams in U17G, U12G, U11B and U10B.
The Falcons began preparing for their season in March with indoor practices and in May and June participated in the Ottawa Ice Breaker Festival and the Cumberland Snakebite Festival.
They complete their season in August after travelling to Carleton Place for the Mississippi Invitational and to the Hornets’ Nest for the Gloucester Invitational Soccer Tournaments.
