Well by the time you read this we will be at the end of July and into the first week of August. Where did the summer go? The first thing you know school will be starting up again.
The other day I was asked why I was still volunteering, that I should be taking it easy and enjoying life! All I said is that I enjoy doing what I am doing. Now for the real reason I volunteer my time. Many years ago I was given a second chance at life. So I enjoyed it in every way I could. Then once again I was given a chance to do what God wanted me to do. So I took a good look at what really made me happy, like the time I volunteered to help those who needed help in one way or the other. Took a child to a show or to the playground; helped a woman with her housework when she was not feeling well; helped an elderly man cross the street; or made a meal for someone. Then I joined different groups that did volunteer work for our soldiers overseas. After many more years I found a group of people who were volunteering their time to help children and adults who needed medical support, and they needed more volunteers. They ran a Bingo that I enjoyed, so I asked if I could volunteer. I was asked to join their club and I said yes.
I joined the Greater Petawawa Civitan Club and volunteered to write a news column for them. From that point on, I volunteered for many other things to help raise money. I have to say that the Greater Petawawa Civitan Club has been a blessing in disguise. I have gotten to travel to different places and meet many more people who are volunteering their time to help make life better for others. That in itself is a blessing. As you know we are trying to raise money for a wheelchair swing that will be placed at the Civitan Park in Petawawa by the Civic Centre. We still need to raise about $10,000 so I will be holding bake sales and raffles and asking for donations. I ask you to please help in any way you can so Civitan can purchase this swing. Thank you to all those who have already donated and bought the goodies we have had for sale at the Bingo.
Now if you what to be a part of a great club and be among people who really care and want a better life for others, then come and join us. We need more volunteers and there is no cost to join us. We just ask for a bit of your time. Come and talk to one of us at the Bingo, we are happy to tell you about Civitan.
I hope to see you all once again at our Bingo. Remember you must be 18 years old to play Bingo in Ontario.
That is all I have for you this week, God bless.
Thought for the week: Say thanks to all our veterans.
