Members of the Greater Petawawa Civitan Club are keeping busy with bingo and selling Christmas cakes. Christmas is just around the corner and the food banks will be looking for help. The Greater Petawawa Civitan Club has always supported the food banks, and this year we have a food bank in Petawawa and they need our help, as well as yours. When you support our bingo you are helping us support those who need our help. The money that the club raises stays in our area.

On Sunday, Nov. 26 we held a raffle for three afghan blankets that were donated to our Club. We want to thank the donor, and all those who bought tickets. There were three draws and three lucky winners.

The Greater Petawawa Civitan Club Christmas Cakes are available at the ESSO gas station and at the Silver Threads Senior’s Club in Petawawa as well as at our Bingo on Sunday night. You may also call Marie Arnold at 613-687-8463 and Brian Miner at 613-687-4503 for cakes and we will be happy to get you as many as you want.

Fruit Cake Cookies: 1 pound Claxton Fruit Cake, 1 box deluxe white or spice cake mix, 2 eggs, ½ cup Wesson oil or Crisco oil. Place cake mix, eggs and oil in large bowl and mix well. Dice fruit cake into small pieces and add to mixture. Hand mix well. Cover cookie sheet with oil. Place mixture on foil by spoonful and bake 12-15 minutes at 350. Do Not Overbake. Yields 5-7 dozen cookies.

Now I hope to see you all once again at our Bingo Sunday night and bring a friend with you.

On Nov. 24, I made a donation of about 50 dog beds on behalf of the Greater Petawawa Civitan to the Ontario SPCA Renfrew County Animal Centre. I would like to thank Civitans Darlene Lambert, Cathy McCabe and Donna Forget for their help. I will be working at getting another 50 or so beds made for both cats and dogs this winter, o if you would like to help, give me a call.

Are you looking for something to help fill in some of the spare time you have? Well I can help you out. The Greater Petawawa Civitan Club is looking for volunteers and new members. There is no cost to join us. If you would like more information about our Civitan Club we invite you to our next meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. upstairs at the Civic Centre in the back room. Turn to your right at top of stairs.

That’s all for this time hope to see you soon. God Bless.

Thought for the week: Life can give you what you want if you want it for long enough - however, not necessarily at the time you want it most.
