Margo and Mark Johnson are the proud new owners of GearHeads Petawawa.
They took over the popular outdoors shop about two months ago and held a grand reopening on Nov. 20, inviting customers to partake in some incredible sales and get to know the staff.
Because their entire family are involved in active living, taking over the shop was perfect for the Johnsons. “We are excited and we are super passionate about everything,” said Margo.
The store sells bikes, skis, snowboards, snowshoe clothing, Nordic equipment and a variety of outdoor gear as well as offering skate sharpening and repairs. Equipment varies from beginner to competitive athletes, so there is something for everyone.
Taking over a business, even such an established one as GearHeads, is a leap of faith, said Petawawa Mayor Bob Sweet, and he commended the new owners for their initiative.
“It is a big responsibility but I think that it is appropriate,” said Sweet. “Cycling has become a major asset,” particularly with the future construction of a nearly 4,000 km trail that will pass through Petawawa, he noted.
“It is nice to see this business that started a few years ago continue and be passed on to a new owner,” said Sweet. “I think that it speaks to the viability of the community and the faith they have in the community. It is nice to see that in place.”
GearHeads is located at 3067 Petawawa Blvd.
