PETAWAWA - The Hopkins Scholarship for the Arts is an annual $1,000 bursary to provide financial support for a graduating student of Valour JK-12 School, beginning with the graduating class of 2019.

The scholarship will be awarded to the most deserving graduating student who intends to pursue post-secondary studies in the field of the Arts, which can encompass music, theatre, film, dance, design or the visual arts.

It was first presented during Valour’s Graduation Ceremony on June 27.

Professional opera baritone and Petawawa native Joshua Hopkins is providing the funding for this scholarship and will be part of the selection process of the successful applicant each year.

The creation of this scholarship is in thanks and appreciation for the vital support that Hopkins received from his schools and the community, which nurtured his artistic talent and potential during his childhood.

Any graduating Valour student who wishes to be considered for the scholarship is required to put together a creative application that outlines how the arts have been beneficial to their life, how they have been involved in the arts within their community, and what their dreams are for their future.

This application will be used by Hopkins to select the recipient of the scholarship.

The donation of scholarships and bursaries by community partners is greatly appreciated, as it shows an interest in and an encouragement of Valour’s graduating class and provides a meaningful contribution towards the students’ post-secondary goals.
