Remember when Pembroke Street in front of Anthony’s Italian Grill was shut down to local traffic and a procession of vintage cars from the 1960s and 1970s drove by?
A crowd gathered to watch from across the street as the cameras rolled and four gangsters stepped out of Dale Forbes’ 1958 Buick Limited. Our crew also shot at the Skylight Drive-In, the street outside the old O’Brien Theatre and Michelle’s School of Performing Arts, and if you look closely you may see a few other local landmarks in the film, like the Victorian house on the corner of Herbert Street and Maple Avenue, and the iconic Grand Trunk Union Station mural by Robin Burgeese in downtown Pembroke.
It has been a whirlwind adventure of a year putting together this film. Siloam Productions shot in several Canadian cities and a few in the US. You will even see Mexico in Blue Skies on Mars. Our actors came from several countries as well, and it has been a lot of fun following along with them on their acting journeys during and after filming.
We are happy to announce that the Ottawa Valley premiere event for Blue Skies on Mars will be hosted by Algonquin Cinemas at the Pembroke Mall. Mark your calendar for Thursday, May 17 at 7 p.m. Please note that the film has mature content.
I am very grateful to have been a part of Blue Skies on Mars as a producer, and next I will be directing a film of my own. This August 11-19 I am shooting the magical fairy tale children’s movie Stel and the Violin. It will be set and shot entirely in the Valley in conjunction with my Studio Dreamshare Acting Camp. Please contact me for more information about opportunities for your child to be involved at Studio Dreamshare on Facebook, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
