CAF Transition Group improving career transition experience
The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Transition Group was established last year to provide engaged, personalized and guided support to transitioning members, with special care and attention to those who are ill or injured, as well as veterans and family members.

Herman Street School students receive special visit from Garrison firefighter
National Defence Fire Service Garrison Petawawa firefighter FR-1 Jordan Regier recently visited students at Herman Street Public School to discuss fire safety in the home, offering tips and advice such as: never re-enter the home for any reason, get out and stay out; find your parents and stay with them, dial 911; go to firefighters for help; and smoke and fire is very dangerous and can hurt you.

Hyska’s YIG donates $500 to SPCA
Hyska’s Your Independent Grocers (YIG) joined the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Ontario SPCA) annual National Cupcake Day fundraising campaign, selling packages of cupcakes with part of the proceeds donated to the Renfrew County Animal Centre. Held Feb 9 and 10, customers purchased 250 packets for a total of $500.

Petawawa Archery Club hosts 3D Indoor Archery Tournament
On March 17, the Petawawa Archery Club held its third 3D Indoor Archery Tournament of the year in Dundonald Hall at Garrison Petawawa. Nearly 70 boys, girls, men and women from the young age of 9 to over 70 years old spent a great day of exciting competition in various Ontario Archery Association divisions.

Coming up on Sunday, March 31 the Ladies Auxiliary is holding a full roast beef or chicken dinner which includes your salad, dessert and tea/coffee. Dinner is served from 4:30-6 p.m. Cost is $15 for adults and $10 for under 10. Everyone is welcome so bring the family.

Exploring career options at Specialized Occupation Fair
A two-day Specialized Occupation Fair was recently held at Garrison Petawawa to increase awareness and streamline the process for members interested in learning about specialty occupations in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF).

Pop Up Art Renfrew County venues include Grn Petawawa’s Dundonald Hall
Pop Up Art will pop up at six venues this summer, including private businesses and public facilities. The venues were selected based on specific criteria which included geographical location, high foot traffic, space allowance and accessibility. Prefence was given to locations where people tend to linger or wait and which serve a broad cross-section of the community. Organizers also considered the element of surprise—many locations are not your typical art gallery location.

There are several parts of the country that are currently rolling up their sleeves and shoveling their driveways. When snow falls in such large quantities we begin to worry about the safety and comfort of our homes. We rely on them to protect us from harsh weather conditions, and the furnace plays a key role in this protection. However, the snow can interfere with the furnace and create a hazard or at least some discomfort if you do not take the proper steps to prevent this from happening.

International Day of Forests (March 21) and World Water Day (March 22)
International Day of Forests is held annually on the 21st of March. It highlights the importance of forests to people everywhere. Locally and globally people depend on forests for their livelihoods, medicine, fuel and food.

Stags win gold at Ontario Region Basketball Championships
The Garrison Petawawa Stags took home the gold at the 2019 Ontario Region Basketball Championships held from February 22 to 25 at 8 Wing Trenton.

News from the Silver Threads Seniors Club
The club is active these days with everyone trying to beat the winter blues and keeping a stiff upper lip with all of the snow that we got last week. The Friendship Dinner on Thursday evening was well attended by both young and old, the next dinner will take place on March 28 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. This is a free meal and it is home cooked by the seniors in the community.
