Every year, the Petawawa Horticultural Society recognizes residents whose gardens are voted the most beautiful. The 2018 Trillium Awards were handed out on Aug. 17. Fourteen gardens were nominated and four were selected to receive the society’s top award. Maria Watford, 87, works by herself to keep gardens on two lots weed-free and beautiful. Mary and Elvis Taylor’s front yard is full of perennial flowers, which attract bees and butterflies, as well as the attention of passersby. Kim Steed has a colourful front yard that garners admiring comments from neighbours. She even added complementary brickwork to enhance the look. Heather Strachan has incorporated a dollhouse in her garden as well as many flowerbeds.
