Congratulations to the newly elected Town Council and a big thank you to everyone who came forward to run. It takes a lot of guts to put yourself forward and to knock on doors and make speeches in front of complete strangers.
If you are interested in going to Ottawa for some Christmas shopping, we are now taking names for the bus. We will be leaving the club at approximately 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 and having lunch at the mall and then shop ‘til you drop or just have a look in the shops and have a nice lunch with friends. We will leave Ottawa at 3:30 p.m. for the ride home.
The Annual General Meeting will take place on Nov. 22 and refreshments and food will be served. Come out and put your name forward to be a member of the Executive. We have many activities that you may be interested in, and you may have some new ideas on how to improve the club.
If you are interested in scrapbooking, we have someone who is interested in teaching scrapbooking. Phone the office and place your name on the list or come into the office and see us.
Nov. 11 is Remembrance Day. Buy a poppy and wear it on your lapel to honour all Veterans. A parade is held at the Legion and everyone is welcome.
For those of you who may be new to town, and may not know what Silver Threads is about, I can assure you that we are not sitting around knitting these days. We have fitness classes four times a week, a fitness room as well as activities like line dancing, card games, swedish weaving, quilting, tole painting and painting media, bingo and of course we always have refreshments and food. Don’t sit at home as we have a modern building with an elevator that you will find very comfortable. We are now called Senior Active Living Centres, as we help local seniors stay active, become more involved in their community and meet new friends.
The winners of the Friday evening Euchre games were: Ellen Baker, Richard Bourque, Al Decoste, Cathy Mckay Jones, Kay Saunders, Donna Forget, Kay Saunders, Norma Oelke, Cathy McKay Jones, Doris McCutcheon.
The Seniors Club is open to everyone 50 and over and the cost is only $25 for the fiscal year, from April to end of March. We are located at 1163 Victoria Street. The phone number is 613-687-6574 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Bring in your donation to the Petawawa Pantry food bank and place it in the box in the foyer. Bring in your stamped Grocery receipts from Hyska’s Independent Grocer Store and place them in the boxes provided upstairs and downstairs.
Shop and play in our community and I will see you at the club!
