Honour and Remember: Remembrance Day ceremonies in Petawawa and Pembroke

Posted on Thursday November 7, 2019

The Remembrance Day Ceremony has played a major role in Remembrance since 1931. Every year, at the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, we gather in memorial parks, community halls, workplaces, schools and homes to stand in honour of all who have fallen. Together, we observe a moment of silence to mark the sacrifice of the many who have fallen in the service of their country, and to acknowledge the courage of those who still serve.

The Parade will leave Mulvihill Drug Mart at 10:35 a.m. to march along the Petawawa Boulevard to the Cenotaph at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 517 Petawawa. Following the service, children are invited to the downstairs lounge for cookies and hot chocolate and the adults are welcome upstairs.

The Parade will form up at the Pembroke Armory at 10:45 a.m. to march to the cenotaph for an 11 a.m. ceremony at Memorial Cenotaph Park conducted by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 72 Pembroke. The park is located beside City Hall. The branch is open for guests after the service.

PLEASE NOTE: Changes to 2019 Remembrance Day parade route

The public will notice a small change to this year’s Remembrance Day parade route.

This year, the parade will start at the back of the Pembroke Legion (202 Pembroke St. E.) at 10:45 a.m. and make its way down McAllister Street to Mackay Street, and continue on Mackay to the cenotaph.

The service will start at the cenotaph with the arrival of the parade, just before 11 a.m.

Following the service, the parade will make its way back to the Legion following Pembroke Street East.
