GARRISON PETAWAWA - From Sept. 25-28 at Garrison Petawawa, approximately 400 military and civilian participants immersed themselves into Exercise COLLABORATIVE SPIRIT 2018, a military hands-on experience intended to develop a better understanding of how the Canadian Army is Strong, Proud and Ready.

Held annually, Ex COLLABORATIVE SPIRIT aims to familiarize senior members of the civil service, senior military personnel, special guests and leaders from Canada’s business community with a deeper understanding of the combat capabilities of Canadian soldiers, and how these skills provide the Canadian Army with a range of capabilities both at home and abroad.

It also serves as the Canadian Army’s contribution to the Joint Command and Staff Program’s Environmental Day.

During the exercise, participants had the opportunity to experience firsthand some of what Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members do while directly engaging with well-trained, professional soldiers and witnessing the capabilities of the Canadian Army’s equipment.

“It is always a great experience for our stakeholders to engage with our soldiers. Taking part in Exercise COLLABORATIVE SPIRIT 2018 gives civilian participants a better understanding of the reality of Canadian soldiers,” said Brigadier-General J.J.M.J Paul, Commander of 4th Canadian Division. “It strengthens the relationship between distinguished Canadian citizens and remains a way to showcase the outstanding professionalism and combat skills of the Canadian Army

Demonstrations of soldiering skills covered weapons familiarization; vehicle operation; engineering demonstrations; live weapons fire; Royal Canadian Armed Forces CH-147 Chinook helicopter insertions; assault boat river crossing, urban assault operations and an equipment display.

Participation in Ex COLLABORATIVE SPIRIT is done via invitation through Canada Company, the Young Presidents Organization, the Business Council of Canada, and the Policy Officer Recruitment Program.
