Voting in the Municipal Election is fast approaching and many of us are unfamiliar with the candidates running for office in the Town of Petawawa. We have an opportunity to meet the old members of council and the new persons vying for our vote. Come out to the Petawawa Civic Centre on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 6:30 p.m. Got some questions or ideas that you may want to see implemented in the town, then here is your chance to have your voice heard by the candidates. The evening is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Petawawa.
During the afternoon of Oct. 4, the Seniors Club is hosting Dawn Recoskie and Christine Mitchell at the hall to discuss voting online and how you can cast your vote. This is a very informative session and these ladies have worked for the town for a number of years and have valuable information to pass on to us. The time is 1 p.m. and we will have tea and coffee available. Everyone is welcome to attend the afternoon sessions. Voting in the Municipal Elections will take place on Oct. 22.
On Oct. 11 from 6 to 7:15 p.m., Jenna Walsh will be having a class on Marijuana and Nutrition: Pass the Cheetos. Marijuana will be legalized in Ontario on Oct. 17, 2018. This should be a fun night for all in attendance.
On Oct. 23 the Nutrition class is being held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the downstairs hall. The topic will be Bone Health and Beyond Dairy. Jenna will inform us on all of the latest nutritious food that we should be eating to keep our bones healthy.
The tickets for Oktoberfest Dinner and Dance are on sale at the office during the week. Eric and Robin from Schmidts Catering will serve a delicious meal with all the trimmings, an abundance of salads, rolls, tea and coffee and desserts. Bob Landry and Bob Madill will provide the rock ‘n’ roll music that we all love to dance and sing, music that we know the words to from our younger days. Come out and join in for a fun evening with friends and neighbours.
All activities have returned for the winter. Check out the website at email@example.com or drop in to the club and pick up a newsletter. The phone number is 613-687-6574. We have an elevator for anyone who may have mobility concerns.
The winners of the Friday evening Euchre were: Dana Meehan, Rose McInnis, Kathy McCabe, Al Decoste. Norma Oelke, Lou McEvoy, Willie Rolston, Carol Yanke, Lise Bourque. The power outage on Friday evening did not thwart the seniors as they played as long as possible by the light of the emergency lights, although it only lasted for a short time.
Bring a donation for the food bank and place it in the box provided downstairs and bring in your stamped grocery receipts from the Independent Grocer and place them in the boxes upstairs and downstairs. We thank you for your help and appreciate your membership.
