Keri and Jordon Radford, a mother-son duo, have taken over ownership of the only remaining full-service gas station in Petawawa.
The team has been running the ESSO Gas Bar at 3416 Petawawa Blvd. for several months now and have a distinct vision for the future. “I want to set us apart from the other gas bars and convenience stores in the area by providing more local products,” said Keri.
In addition to providing traditional goods and services of a full-service gas station, including tire pressure and fluid level checks, abd window washing, they will also have a handheld pay system so that clients can stay comfortably inside their vehicles. The typical road warrior snacks and necessities will be served alongside locally produced goods such as treats from Valley Keto Kitchen and Golden Lake Honey.
It has been a hectic past few weeks changing over ownership, but the duo feels confident that it is the right decision to make.
At only 20-years-old, Jordan graduated from the accelerated Algonquin College Business program and is incredibly energized to take this ESSO to the next level.
He describes it as a great bonding experience with his mother, and an opportunity to learn from her as she has run her own business in the past. The plan is for him to ultimately take sole ownership once things are settled. “It was the right time for me,” said the young entrepreneur. “And it was a great opportunity. People told me to start young so here I am.”
To highlight the handover, members of Petawawa council came out to celebrate and they held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 12.
