Hyska’s Your Independent Grocer donates over $3,000 to charities

Hyska’s Your Independent Grocer (YIG) surpassed last year’s donation to the Petawawa Pantry by nearly $1,000. With the help of community donations and their bi-yearly campaign, the local business was able to give $2308.20 to the local food bank as well as nearly 1,000 pounds of food, 50 turkeys and 20 hams to those in need. The Christmas food drive will help stock the shelves at the food bank to help the approximately 250 people who use their services. Through the fundraising sale of Christmas trees, Hyska’s Your Independent Grocer (YIG) made a donation of $750 to the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Ontario SPCA) Renfrew County Animal Centre. With every tree sold, $10 went to the fundraiser. The generous donation will go a long way towards the care of the animals at the centre, particularly now that their new, larger building will allow them to house a greater number of animals. Store Owner Val Hyska and Promotions Manager Ben Rutz presented the cheque to Ontario SPCA Community Development Coordinator Heather Jobe and her dog Megan.
