How the Personnel Selection Office can help prepare you for retirement
The Personnel Selection Office hosts three distinct activities that can assist you with preparing for your transition out of the CAF: Second Career Assistance Network (SCAN), Career Transition Workshops (CTW) and Education Information Sessions.
The SCAN is a three day seminar offered to current serving members of the CAF and their spouses. It is recommend that members attend at least one year prior to retirement, as well as every five years while serving.
It hosts guest from more than 25 different organizations and each day has a different theme. Day one is focused on military career planning, day two is centred on transitioning from the CAF and day three is for members who are possibly medically releasing. Petawawa’s Personnel Selection Officers organize SCANs twice a year; one in the fall and one in the spring. The next SCAN will take place from October 2nd to 4th at the Petawawa Civic Centre and will feature a job fair on day 2 and 3.
CTWs are offered throughout the year. Each session is two days of small group work that assist transitioning members with preparing for the workforce. This is done by providing members with an assessment of their skills, preparing a resume and encouraging proper job search and interviewing techniques. The next CTW will be offered on 23-24 Jan 19.
Education Information Sessions are run once a month and provide information on education reimbursement and the Veterans Education Benefits. In addition, several partner organizations attend and speak about the programs they offer to current and transitioning members, including the Renfrew County Adult High School, Willis College and Algonquin College.
Registration for all our programs can be done online at: http://acims.mil.ca/sp/4CDSBPetPersSvcsPSO/SitePages/Home.aspx or in person at our office, Bldg P142, in the Black Bear Support Centre (across the street from S-111).
