North Renfrew EarlyOn Child and Family Centre to open this month

Services to be provided at locations in Deep River and Laurentian Hills

The new North Renfrew EarlyOn Child and Family Centre will soon be offering services at two locations, one in Deep River and the other in Laurentian Hills.

EarlyOn Child and Family Centres offer high-quality programs and services for families and children six and under. The activities are diverse and many, tailored to each community’s needs. They all have a similar thread, however - to promote the well-being and development of children and assist their guardians.

The County of Renfrew and the Ministry of Education oversee EarlyOn Child and Family Centres, through Family and Children’s Services (FCS) of Renfrew County. There are currently other locations in Pembroke, Petawawa, Renfrew, Killaloe, and Arnprior. They all work through partnerships with local organizations already on location and build strong roots within the community.

“One of the unique things about Renfrew County is that the communities across the county are quite varied and we have the ability to respond to some of the localized service needs and requirements,” said FCS Acting Executive Director Jeff List.

The centres are also ideal for families who want to connect with those with young children while developing relationships with other parents or guardians. At these locations, there is also a library of available resources that may help them, open to users of these centres.

Though there are some firm programs, the activities evolve according to feedback from the users. They are greatly popular and the EarlyOn Centres already in existence are thriving and growing as more families become aware of them.

“We have a good reputation and families just spread the word,” said List.

Having two new locations will help serve additional families.

“I’m hopeful that with our experience with the EarlyOn Centres in existence, we will quickly get the North Renfrew sites up to speed in terms of the programs that are offered and what the families can expect,” he added.

Anticipation has been great with many looking forward to having this centre in their town and organizers are confident that the new locations will offer the same quality programming and services as the existing ones.

The brand-new locations are St. Mary’s School in Deep River and at the municipal office of the Town of Laurentian Hills. The calendar of events will be released in April and they will be offering drop-in programs and learning activities as well as presenting resources and information for families.
