Annual Winter Family Festival returns on Family Day Feb. 18

Get out and enjoy the best of winter fun at the annual Winter Family Festival on Feb. 18.

Organized once again by Garrison Petawawa Personnel Support Programs (PSP) the always free winter carnival will offer horse-drawn sleigh rides, a bonfire with marshmallows, snowshoeing and massive snow hills for sliding and climbing.

New this year will be crazy carpets given out to the first 350 to hit the hills. Also making its first appearance is a special figure skating performance.

Dreams Catering, CANEX and SISIP together will provide hot dogs, chili, soup and hot chocolate served by PSP senior staff. This year 1,000 hot dogs have been ordered so running out should not be an option.

Channel your inner Paul Bunyon for the Axe Throwing competition. Meanwhile the Petawawa Military Family Resource Centre will once again host special events for younger children.

Over at Silver Dart Arena free open skating will run from 1 to 6 p.m. Free hot chocolate is available at the canteen.

Look up into the skies for the fireworks show. The 10 to 12 minute performance will close out festivities at 6:15 p.m.

This is the seventh year the festival has been held on the Monday of the Family Day long weekend.
