News from the Silver Threads Seniors Club
Remembrance Day is Nov. 11 and there is always a parade and a service at the Legion on the Boulevard at 11 a.m. This is a very solemn ceremony and it is a time that we can all spend an hour of our day remembering those who fought in wars and gave their lives for our great country. Check out the Legion website for all activities during this week.
The Book Club will have its meeting on Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. Michelle from the Petawawa Library will be in attendance to assist with the books and be part of the discussion for the meeting.
We will be having a seminar on Nov. 14, at 1 p.m. about Wills and Planning. Even though many of us may already have a will in place, there are times when we may need to update them, depending on what is going on with the family. The seminar is being led by Stephanie Cadieux, Eastern Regional Consultant. Stephanie has other seminars such as elder abuse, scams targeting older adults, understanding Powers of Attorney, senior bullying, dating as an older adult, caregiving, improving self-esteem, communication for healthy relationships, ageism, and It’s Not Right (a presentation meant to encourage neighbours, friends and family to become more proactive in providing support to mistreated older adults). We will have refreshments and food. Everyone is welcome to come and you do not have to be a senior.
We are having a Christmas Luncheon again this year on Dec. 5 from noon to 2 p.m. If you would like to decorate a table for the occassion and invite your friends to come to lunch, then it will be a fun time to get together for some Christmas cheer. The cost is $10 per person and it will be a catered meal.
Tickets for the Christmas Dinner and Dance will be on sale at the office. There will be no tickets held at the door as we have many members who love to come out for Christmas and enjoy a beautiful evening with their friends. It is always warm in the club, so be sure and wear light-weight clothing and no sweaters as it is uncomfortable to try and dance and have fun.
The winners of the Friday evening Euchre were: Lise Bourque, Fred Smith, Todd Sullivan, Cathy McCabe Jones, Gary Huff, Witt Quinn, Leigh McDonald, Carol Yahnke, John Collier. Friday night Euchre is at 7 p.m.
Have a safe Hallowe’en and enjoy all of those Ghosts and Goblins at your door. I will see you at the club!
