The Energy Awareness Team participated in Family Day at Garrison Petawawa on September 7 to promote the importance of managing energy consumption at home and at work. The Kiosk team included representatives from DCC and the engineering firm performing the energy management work.

The Kiosk displays included demonstrating the efficiency of LED lighting, animated energy quiz, fun give aways and over 500 (15 year) LED Lightbulbs given out.

Traffic through the Kiosk was strong throughout the event with most visitors taking an interest in better understanding the difference between the traditional incandescent lightbulb vs. new LED technology. The Kiosk was located close to Dundonald Hall where the recently completed LED lighting upgrade demonstrates the improvement available in lighting levels from LED technology while dramatically reducing energy consumption at the same time.

In the end, this initiative is all about doing our part in contributing to achieving the Federal Governments aggressive GHG reduction goals. Several Garrisons and Bases across Canada are implementing similar programs that use the energy savings achieved to finance the improvements.
