News from the Silver Threads Seniors Club

It’s hard to believe that Thanksgiving is just around the corner and we will be celebrating once again with family and friends. Enjoy all of the good food and the fun of a long weekend.

The seniors club has finally got a group of folks interested in being part of a Book Club. We had our first meeting on Friday and we decided that we will meet on the first Thursday of the month at 1:15 p.m. If you are interested, bring along your favourite book and we will be persuing Agatha Christie’s “Then There Were None.” We have a vibrant group and Michelle from the Petawawa Library Outreach is our book guru.

We will be going to Stone Fence Theatre at the Rankin Community Centre on Friday, October 4 and the bus will leave the Seniors’ at 4:45 p.m. I am looking forward to a wonderful play and a delicious dinner.

We have a stop on the Petawawa Ramble Map for October 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come out and see some local artwork and quilts sewn by local women. Hopefully it will be a sunny day and you can walk to the Centennial Park and get some scenic pictures of the changing colours. Ride your bicycle or wear your comfortable shoes and take a walk over to 1163 Victoria Street. We will be displaying art by John Page and Carolyn Eatons. Bring your cheque book as you may want to purchase an item.

The Dinner/Dance is scheduled for October 24, and the doors open at 5 p.m. with dinner being served at 6 p.m. The caterer is Schmidt’s and the music is played and sung by Bob Landry and Bob Madill. We will have a door prize, a 50/50 draw and a raffle basket. You will enjoy a fun evening with some lively music and its a good time to catch up with friends.

The winners of the Friday evening card games were: Vern Stressman, Lise Bourque, Ellen Baker, Ed Brindle, Carol Myers, Bill Stevens, Todd Sullivan, John Collier, Royce Slater, Peter Turpe.

The Older Adult Centres Association of Ontario is a recognized leader in the development of quality services, resources and supports for our network of community based older adult cntres. Seniors information and Active Living fairs are a public education initiative developed in partnership between the OACAO and funded in part by the Ministry for Seniors and Accessibility with a programs and services to which they are entitled and share knowledge on healthy aging and active lifestyles thereby reducing social isolation.

The Seniors will be hosting a Seniors Fair on March 5, 2020. We will have many support groups from the Community at the Fair and everyone can come out and get lots of information.

The cost of a membership is only $25 per year. Come in and check us out and you may find something that that interests you.
