News from the Silver Threads Seniors Club
The Seniors Club will be ramping up again this month with plenty of activity for everyone 50+, as we mark our calendars for the upcoming events. Remember that September 12 is the Open House and this is a time for new members to come out and sign up for activities, meet new people, and have some munchies.
We will have representatives from the tole painters, quilters, cards, fitness, yoga, bingo, swedish weaving and painters. If you have a talent that you would like to share with us, let us know as we would surely love to meet with you.
Use Safety Aids: Many seniors are falling and seriously hurting themselves. Use safety aids. Aids to daily living can keep you safe and active. Wear your glasses and hearing aid. Consider using a walker or cane and make sure that it is the correct height. Wear well-fitted shoes or slippers with closed low heels and non-slip soles. Find out about other gadgets that make your life safer: reachers, ice grippers, hip protectors, etc. Use them.
If you fall....try and land on your buttocks to prevent more serious injuries. Don’t rush to get up. Make sure you are not injured before trying to get up or letting others help you to get up. Don’t let the fear of falling again prevent you from being active. Inactivity creates an even greater risk of falling. Report falls to your health care provider to determine the cause and prevent another fall.
The winners of the Friday evening Euchre were: Hughuette Clouthier, Carolyn Lescombe, Don Bunn, Gilda McKay, Vern Stressman, Shirley Mielke, Doris McCutcheon, Bill Stevens, Cathy McKay Jones.
We are having the Petawawa Ramble on October 19 and 20. Many businesses will be displaying Pumpkin People at their businesses. If you have some ideas for the Seniors Club and would like to get involved, let us know. We will be hosting an Art show in the upstairs hall. Bring in your painting, quilts, needlework, etc. for display and for sale. The inaugural Petawawa Ramble is an opportunity to enjoy autumn splendor and to savour, sample and experience the bounty of our community offerings. Three family friendly events and the Pumpkin People Festival encompass the weekend festivities. Come wander our dynamic businesses and public spaces to see unique pumpkin people displays and vignettes. Come ramble with us. www.petawawa.ca.

I see lots of people out walking and riding their bikes, what a great town we have for these fun activities.
Have fun and I will see you at the club!
