Fire leaves Danny's Restaurant & Steakhouse gutted
One person was left injured after an early evening fire on Monday tore through Danny's Restaurant and Steakhouse, leaving the local Petawawa restaurant gutted.
On April 27, members of the Petawawa Fire Department and the Upper Ottawa Valley (UOV) Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the structural fire on Petawawa Boulevard at about 5:15 p.m.
Deputy Fire Chief Craig Proulx confirmed that the fire began in the basement and firefighters worked long into the night to bring the fire under control. They remained on the scene the following day to extinguish any remaining hot spots.
Garrison Petawawa's National Defence Fire Service provided an aerial apparatus and three personnel to help extinguish the flames.
Damages are valued at more than $1-million, said Proulx.
The identity of the injured person was not released to the public, but Renfrew County Paramedics transported the individual to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Bill Dickson, Media Relations Coordinator for the OPP East Region, confirmed the injuries were not sustained by a first responder. "It was a person who was in the building at the time," he said.
UOV OPP, with the assistance of the Petawawa Fire Department, is investigating the cause of the blaze. "We owe that to the owners and to everybody else that we thoroughly investigate what the cause was," said Dickson. "But we are not assuming there was any … wrong-doings at all."
As of the early afternoon of April 28, one lane of the roadway remains closed between Victoria Street and Mohns Avenue.
