Burnt Bridge Quality Meats has reopened in Petawawa under new ownership.

Jeff and Sarah Bennett, who already own Reiche Meat Products, felt it was a natural transition to move into this storefront.

“People were coming to us for smaller meat orders, and we were already really swamped because we already do a lot of custom cutting for farmers for their customers,” said Sarah.

The fact that they were already making the jerky for the store and supplying it with a lot of its pork and beef just made it easier to take over once the previous owners decided to sell.

“I’ve been in the farming industry for years,” Sarah added. “We have our own farm. We have our own beef. The goat that is sold here is my goat.”

Both were warmly welcomed as new Petawawa business owners with members of the Petawawa Business Advisory Network (PBAN) and Council attending their grand reopening on Oct. 16.

“It takes great courage to open a business,” said Petawawa Deputy Mayor Gary Serviss before the ribbon was cut, “especially in the midst of the pandemic.”

He praised the quality of the meat as much of the product is either local, organic or both.

“It’s your way of reducing your carbon footprint, which is a very ethical and conscientious thing to do,” the Deputy Mayor added, pointing out they also serve some novel meats such as a wild boar, goat and bison.

Not all of the meat is locally sourced, but efforts have been made to provide the highest quality meat possible.

The Bennett’s have teamed up with other businesses and artisans to offer some incredible, unique products. This includes Hedgeview Farm Organics, Ottawa Valley Farm to Fork, Scottish Highland cattle, Thornloe Cheese, and Mrs. McGarrigle’s Fine Mustards...Fine Foods.

“A lot of small family farms need support and I’m all about that,” said Sarah. “I want to support them.”

Burnt Bridge is located at 20 Wolfe Ave.
