The Petawawa Diversity and Employment Equity Advisory Group (PDEEAG) would like to take this time to wish all members of the Garrison Petawawa Defence Team a healthy, happy and above all a peaceful holiday. The Committee would like to share with you the 16 days of activism. Please take the time to read, reflect and remember the values of diversity.

The Canadian Armed Forces and Department of National Defence (DND) is committed to creating a workplace that is fair, respectful, inclusive and supportive of diversity and a workforce that is reflective of Canada’s population. The Advisory Group exists under the umbrella of the PDEEAG to ensure that all members of the Garrison understand the values of diversity and see it as a source of creativity and strength that contributes to the operational capability of the Canadian Armed Forces and the Department of National Defence.

The PDEEAG comprises of four Advisory Groups; Defence Aboriginal Advisory Group, Defence Visible Minority Advisory Group, Defence Women’s Advisory Group, and Defence Advisory Group for Persons with Disabilities. The Defence team has also launched a Defence Team Pride Network. The mission of the groups is to provide timely and sound advice to Garrison Petawawa Units with a view to creating a work environment free from equity discrepancies.

The PDEEAG Committee provides advice and insight to the leadership of Garrison Petawawa on issues relevant to the implementation of Employment Equity and advice on the development of policies and procedures relating to Employment Equity and may provide recommendations for solutions to identified workplace issues.

The terrible mass shooting at l’Ecole Polytechnique on December 6th, 1989 left Canadians shocked and heart broken. More than 30 years later we still face the troubling fact that women, girls and LGBTQ2 individuals still face the threat of this kind of violence every day. Take a moment today, The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, to reflect on how far we have come and how far we still have to go.

On December 6
We remember Geneviève Bergeron, Hélène Colgan, Nathalie Croteau, Barbara Daigneault, Anne-Marie Edward, Maud Haviernick, Maryse Laganière, Maryse Leclair, Anne-Marie Lemay, Sonia Pelletier, Michèle Richard, Annie St-Arneault, Annie Turcotte, and Barbara Klucznik-Widajewicz.
