Riding of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke to receive $1.49 million to support regional tourism operators
PEMBROKE – Today, Lisa MacLeod, Minister of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries, joined John Yakabuski, Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry and MPP for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, Laurie Scott, Minister of Infrastructure and MPP for Haliburton-Kawartha Lakes-Brock, and Daryl Kramp, MPP for Hastings-Lennox and Addington to announce local tourism support in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.
“Ontario and the riding of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke have many tourism attractions and programs within their local community.” said Minister MacLeod. “These organizations were hit the hardest, and our government is committed to supporting these local agencies as they work through and overcome the effects of COVID-19.”
Our government is committed to continuing its work with our province’s tourism and arts sectors to ensure that as the economy gradually reopens, Ontario will be in the best position to welcome the world back to our province.
“Our government knows how important it is to support Ontarians as the economy recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said John Yakabuski, MPP for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke and Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry. “That’s why we are continuing to make investments across the province, like those in the tourism sector, which create local jobs and sustain Ontario’s communities.”
Through the Ontario Arts Council, Ontario Trillium Foundation, Ontario Creates and other granting programs, the Province has provided over $2.9 million in funding to the tourism attractions within the regional tourism organization 11.
The government is also investing over $350,000 in local festivals and events through the Celebrate Ontario program to help reinvigorate our province’s $36 billion tourism industry that supports over 400,000 jobs.
“We are very grateful for the additional financial support extended to our region from the Ministry of Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Culture Industries,” said Nicole Whiting, Executive Director of Ontario’s Highlands Tourism Organization (RTO 11),” Our communities are surrounded by world class natural assets, but it is the character of our people that brings our natural environment and our rich culture and heritage to life. The investments made will help to preserve an incredible legacy of collaboration, creativity and resilience.”
The Community Resource Centre (CRC) in Killaloe is just one example of a local organization that the province is supporting with a grant of $622,500 over three years.
The CRC managed Game On! Youth Program will provide the residents of several rural communities in Renfrew County with opportunities to participate in sports and physical activities while fostering healthy living.
