Christmas Service of Remembrance

Christmas is a time for joy and coming together with family and friends.
It can also serve as a painful reminder about the loss of loved ones, whether recently or from years ago. On Saturday, December 14, the Malcolm, Deavitt and Binhammer Funeral Home invited all who are grieving the loss of a loved one this Christmas Season to attend its annual Christmas Service of Remembrance held at Pembroke’s Wesley United Church. In response, more than 150 people attended the service, with Pastor Linda Fuller and Pastor Bruce Thompson providing selected readings and messages of comfort.
Eric Zadow, Managing Director, welcomed those in attendance and reminded everyone, “this Christmas will be different from Christmases of past and it is our hope that by attending today, everyone will take with you a sense of comfort, peace and support which will remain, as we approach the upcoming Christmas Season.”
Caitlin Cybulski, Funeral Director, provided a Christmas Prayer of Remembrance, complete with a candle lighting ceremony. As part of the service, the Wesley United Church Choir led the singing of Christmas hymns The First Noel and Silent Night.
Each family which took part received a Christmas tree ornament as a remembrance of their loved one. A time of fellowship and refreshments was held in the church hall following the service.
