Open Junior Badminton Tournament held at Garrison Petawawa

Dec. 14 was highlighted in Petawawa by the Garrison Petawawa Open Junior Badminton Tournament held at Dundonald Hall.
Eighty-one participants, ages 11 to 18, in three age categories - under 15 singles and doubles, under 17 singles and doubles and under 19 doubles and mixed doubles - enjoyed a great day of challenging badminton.
Participants came from several clubs in Ottawa, Renfrew, Eganville, Pembroke, Deep River, North Bay and of course Petawawa. Dundonald Hall is the only facility in the valley capable of holding such an event on one day with its 15 courts.
A special shout out to a couple of local heroes, Brian Kong for his under 19 win in mixed doubles as well as to Krisha Alexander for her third-place finish in under 15 doubles.
All winners will be posted on our events tab on www.badmintonpetawawa.com and on the Ottawa District Badminton Association (ODBA) website, which will also have the ODBA ranking points the players achieved as this was an ODBA sanctioned tournament.
The tournament was punctuated by a couple of rare occurrences. In attendance was Coach Dominic Soong from the Soong Badminton Club. He is a former World #2 ranked doubles player from Malaysia. Petawawa’s own Mayor Bob Sweet, a former junior badminton champion in his home country, Scotland also came to the event.
