Municipal events cancelled due to COVID-19

PETAWAWA - With the extension of the Ontario provincial emergency orders to May 19, and with clear messaging that large scale social gatherings are not likely to be permitted in the immediate future, the Town of Petawawa is announcing the cancellation of municipal facilitated events to the end of July.

“These events are important public celebrations bringing together neighbours and visitors to enjoy and experience our community,” said Mayor Robert Sweet. “However, ensuring the safety and health of our residents takes precedence. We must not become complacent and risk a lapse that will further delay a return to our quality of life or endanger individuals in our communities.”

These cancellations, agreed upon by the Emergency Control Group, support Public Health direction that maintaining physical distancing is vital to breaking the infection rate of COVID-19.

Events cancelled by this notice include the annual Civic Centre Days weekend, June 18th to 21st, and Canada Day on July 1st. Staff continue to work diligently on opportunities to bring celebrations to the community, in new ways. Stay tuned. We will share updates and information as available.
